Do I have to get a new drivers license to vote?

Kansas law requires drivers to change their address within 10-days of moving to a new residence. For drivers with an existing Kansas drivers license, the easiest and fastest way to change an in-state address is to submit address changes online here: KDOR.

Kansas drivers don't have to get a new license card. Otherwise, you can go to any driver licensing office to make an address change.

Drivers moving to Kansas from out of state will need to go to any driver licensing office to apply for a Kansas drivers license.

When updating drivers license information or applying for a new Kansas drivers license, you will be asked if you would like to register to vote or update your voter registration information. The voter registration update process is not automatic, and may take several business days to be processed and sent to the Election Office.

Party Affiliation Changes

Kansas election law (KSA 25-3304) prohibits party changes from noon on June 1 through August 31 in even-numbered calendar years. This includes changing from one political party to another political party, or changing from being affiliated with a political party to being an unaffiliated voter. Any party changes submitted during this time frame will be rejected.

If a voter desires to change their political party affiliation on their voter registration status after the August primary election, a new voter registration application will need to be submitted on or after September 1 in even-numbered years.
