Johnson County, Kansas contains parts or all of 10 different state senate districts, 27 state house of representative districts, 3 state board of education districts, 6 county commissioner districts, 20 municipalities, 7 townships, 8 school districts, 2 drainage districts and 1 water district.

The Election Office is responsible for conducting elections for all the political subdivisions within the county. There are statewide and federal level elections held every two years in even-numbered years with an August primary and a November general election.  City, School District, and other 'local' jurisdictional offices are typically elected in the odd-numbered year elections.  Types of Elections Info

The Johnson County, Kansas Election Office has an approved budget authority of twenty (20) full-time staff positions, including the staff position for the Election Commissioner.

Kansas law requires that counties with a population greater than 125,000 people must have an Election Commissioner appointed by the Secretary of State K.S.A. 19-3419.
