Precinct Maps

Each county is composed of geographic entities called precincts - or vote tabulation districts (VTD) which is a U.S. Census Bureau term.

The precinct is the base unit for conducting an election. Each county commission, state legislative and U.S. legislative district is composed of precincts.  Johnson County, Kansas also utilizes municipal boundaries and city ward boundaries to further define precincts.

A precinct may not lie in more than one legislative, county commission, township or municipal district.

  • New precincts may be created if required by the creation of a political subdivision
  • New precincts may be created or altered if an annexation occurs
  • New precincts may be established if they lie entirely within the boundaries of any existing precinct
  • Precinct lines may be altered to conform or coincide with a federal census block boundary

Johnson County utilizes a four-digit code for each precinct in addition to naming each precinct.  The first digit of this precinct code is based on the county's city/township code system, the second digit reflects the city ward number for those municipalities that have established a ward structure, and the third and fourth digit is a numerical sequence of precincts.
