Filing Deadline
- Filing deadline is ten weeks prior to the first Tuesday in April, 12:00 Noon.
(K.S.A. 25-2109)
- Candidates file at the Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe.
- Blue Valley USD #229, Spring Hill USD #230 and Gardner-Edgerton USD #231 overlap into Miami County.
- Eudora USD #491 overlaps from Douglas County into Johnson County. Candidates file in Douglas County.
- Wellsville USD #289 overlaps from Franklin County into Johnson County. Candidates file in Franklin County.
- Unified School District candidate filing fee is $5.
Member Districts
- Candidates must have not less than 50 registered voters residing in such member district or by a number of signatures equal to but not less than 10% of the electors residing in such member district, whichever is less.
- Candidates must have not less than 50 signatures of electors in the district.
Documents to be Filed

Declaration of Intention (Filing Form)
- Unified School District Candidates obtain and file this form with the Election Office.
- Completed form is due no later than ten (10) days after the filing deadline.
- Form is filed with the Election Office.
- If a candidate anticipates receiving and spending less than $500.00 in the Primary Election and anticipates receiving and spending less than an additional $500.00 in the General Election, he/she can file an Affidavit of Exemption. This affidavit waives the need for a candidate to file campaign Receipts and Expenditures Reports.
- Completed form is due nine (9) days prior to the primary election.
- Completed form is filed with the Election Office.
- Form must be notarized.
- Form is due thirty (30) days after each primary, general or special election.
- In addition to reporting all campaign expenditures, these candidates are now required to itemize contributions in excess of $50.00. Itemizing means listing the name and address of the contributor, the date on which the contribution is received and the amount of the contribution.
- If all transactions were directed to the treasurer or committee, form is still required to be filed by the candidate, listing all zeros ($0.00).
- Completed form is filed with the Election Office.
- Form must be notarized.
- If a candidate forms a committee, a treasurer must be appointed to complete and file a Campaign Committee Report by December 31 of the election year.
- Completed form is filed with the Election Office.
- An Annual Report is required by December 31 if the committee has a balance in the campaign fund.
