Merriam Ward 4
Recall Election - February 2003
Statement of the Grounds for Recall
"Seek the recall of Gary Glenn from the office of Council Member on the grounds that he misappropriated city funds by conspiring with Councilman Nye and Councilwomen Snell and Williams to falsify a payment for Internet access to help pay for a personal web site for himself and the three other councilpersons, payment of $1,200.00 being made on October 27, 1999 on City of Merriam check number 059057."
Statement of the Local Officer to be Recalled
The opposition to me being a member of the Merriam City Council has been very emotional. Rather than an emotional response let's look at some hard facts about my service for you as a Merriam City Councilperson.
KC Star Reporter Brad Cooper wrote on May 23, 2001 "Paul Morrison's inquiry turns up no violations. Four on Merriam Council did not misuse $300 in city funds." On April 20, 2001, Johnson County Sun's Steve Rose said about the recall election "that this lynch mob effort in Merriam is abusing the recall process."
Other Facts:
- Submitted budget for 2003 that would not of required a tax increase.
- Voted against the 2003 property tax increase.
- Continually fought to preserve funds for residential street improvements
- Successfully introduced a 1/8 cent sales tax passed by public vote 2 to 1 that is now the only funding source being used for residential street improvements.
- Fought against the oversized expansion of the city hall / police building.
- Fought for our children's rights by blocking city funding of the abusive county juvenile justice system.
- Introduced a City Council Policy against nepotism.
- Voted against giving over $2,000,000.00 dollars of your tax money to a luxury car dealership.
