Election of Mayor and/or Council Members in the cities of Countryside, DeSoto, Edgerton, Fairway, Gardner, Lake Quivira, Lenexa, Merriam, Mission, Mission Hills, Mission Woods, Olathe, Overland Park, Roeland Park, Shawnee, Spring Hill, and Westwood Hills.

No elections in the cities of Leawood, Prairie Village and Westwood.


Countryside

The City of Countryside is a Third Class City. Countryside is served by a Mayor and 5 Council Members At-Large. A Charter Ordinance changing the terms of the elected city officials became effective January 31, 2000.

In April 2001, the Mayor and 5 Council Members will be elected. The Mayor will be elected to a 2 year term. The 3 Council Member candidates with the highest number of votes will be elected to 4 year terms. The remaining 2 candidates will be elected to 2 year terms.

In April 2003, the Mayor will be elected to a 4 year term. Two Council Members will be elected to 4 year terms.

In April 2005, three Council Members will be elected to 4 year terms.

In April 2007, the Mayor and two Council Members will be elected to 4 year terms.

In April 2009, three Council Members will be elected to 4 year terms.

The City of DeSoto is a Third Class City. An election is held every two years (odd numbered years). DeSoto is served by a Mayor and 5 Council Members At-Large. All are elected to 4 year terms. Overland Park

The City of Overland Park is a First Class City with five wards. A partisan election is held every two years (odd numbered years). Overland Park is served by a Mayor and 10 Council Members, two from each ward. All are elected to 4 year terms. The Mayor and 5 Council Members will be elected in 2001. Five Council Members will be elected in 2003.

Candidates file by party affiliation or as "Independent Nominations." A partisan primary election is held if two or more Democrats or two or more Republicans file for an office. Winners of the Democratic and/or Republican primary election advance to the General Election. Independent nomination candidates run in the General Election only.

Voter qualifications: In a partisan primary election, eligible voters must be affiliated as a Democrat or a Republican and may vote for a candidate for that party. Unaffiliated voters may declare a party affiliation on the day of the primary election. In a general election, voters may vote for any candidate on the ballot.
