On Election Day, over 1,800 election workers are needed to serve the voters at the polls in Johnson County. This is a great opportunity to serve your community and to be involved in the election process.

- Students who will be at least 16 years of age at the time of the election
are invited to serve as Election Workers and may apply by completing the Student Election Worker Form and

Election Worker General Information
Qualifications
- Resident of Johnson County, Kansas
- Registered to vote at current address
- Complete three (3) hours of training
- Available for the complete day (Please Note: Smoking is not allowed at any polling location)
- Social Security Card, a clear/current copy for the payroll department is needed before assignment
- Supervising Judges: $135.00 a day
- Election Workers: $110.00 a day
- Training Session: $15.00
- Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- All election workers report to their assigned work site on Election Day no later than 6:00 a.m. to prepare for 7:00 a.m. opening of the polls.
- For Presidential Elections only, election workers report at 5:00 a.m. for the 6:00 a.m. opening of the polls.
- Following the close of the polls at 7:00 p.m., all election workers assist the supervising judge in closing down the polling site.
- Election Boards are responsible for the election process at each polling place.
- Election Boards are comprised of a Supervising Judge and a minimum of 2 Election Workers.
- All election workers are required to complete three hours of training.
- A Supervising Judge must have been previously an Election Worker. The Supervising Judge is the person in charge of the polling place and is responsible for the operation of the polling place.
- On the weekend prior to every election, the Supervising Judge attends a mandatory meeting specifically for Supervisors. (This is in addition to the required training session).
- On the Monday preceding the election, the Supervising Judge picks up election supplies at Election Office, reviews the Supervising Judge Procedure notebook, enters the name of Monday morning advance voters in Registration Book, calls the assigned election workers to confirm that each one will report on Election Day at 6:00 a.m. and notifies the Election Office of any prospective absences.
- On Election Day, the Supervising Judge assigns the duties to the Election Board. All election workers arrange the polling place to receive voters and post all signs. The Supervising Judge officially opens the polls and manages the processing of voters.
- On Election Night, the Supervising Judge officially closes the polls by closing the doors to the polls at 7:00 p.m. but allows all voters who are in line at 7:00 p.m. to have the opportunity to vote. Following the printing of the Results Tape and removal of the PC Cards from voting machines, the Supervising Judge directs the designated driver to promptly deliver the PC cards to the assigned Drop-off Site. After the polling place materials have been secured, the Supervising Judge delivers the black supply suitcase promptly to the assigned Drop-off Site.
- Election Workers assist the Supervising Judge and share responsibility for the operation of the polling site.
- They greet voters, assist at registration book and card encoder machine, accompany each voter to a voting machine, verify Voter Receipt information, collect Voter Cards and issue "I Voted" Stickers.
- Following the close of the polls at 7:00 p.m., all election workers assist the Supervising Judge in closing the polling site.
