1997 NACO Achievement Award
The "Promoting Voting" project was initiated by the staff of the Election Office to communicate the importance of voting to all ages. In 1996, the Election Office faced the task of implementing two new voting laws, while at the same time overcoming voter apathy and a negative public image due to extremely long lines on Election Day, November 3, 1992. The theme, "Promoting Voting" was reflected in the student and community outreach programs, which included (1) establishing corporate sponsorships; (2) implementing a Model Student Election Outreach Program; (3) developing a homepage on the Internet; and (4) establishing a community-at-large public relations and marketing campaign annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.
